Doctrinal Statement

We believe… and that’s all it takes.  Over 90 times in the Book of John the Lord used the word “believe.”  And not one time in the book did He use the word “repent.”  We believe that “repentance” is a fine Bible word with an extremely important usage in the Word of God, but it is all too often misunderstood to be a “turning away from sin” in order to be saved.  If there is any good thing or work we can do to be saved, then it would not have been necessary for Christ to die on the cross for us, for we could save ourselves.  We CANNOT save ourselves, and if we do not get saved, we will spend all eternity in a devil’s Hell of flame and torment.  Why do we need to be saved?  We need to get saved from our sins which cannot be allowed into a perfect Heaven and in the presence of a perfect God.  We believe that we are sinners according to Romans 3:10, “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:”  Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”  We believe we are sinners by birth and by choice.  We believe Romans 5:12, “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:”  By what we are and what we have done, we have earned death in Hell.  Romans 6:23a says, “For the wages of sin is death;”  Wages are what we get for what we have done.  The “death” we have earned here is the “second death” spoken of in Revelation 20:14 and 21:8.  “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire.  This is the second death.” “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone; which is the second death.”  Friend, there is a way out!  The complete verse, Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Inasmuch as wages are what we get for what we have done, the gift is free and cannot be earned.  The gift is eternal life in Heaven just as sure as the death was eternal in Hell.  The gift of eternal life comes by believing in Jesus Christ.  How does one believe?  Believing is not complicated.  You may believe in God, and you may believe historically that Jesus died on the cross many years ago.  However, this is like believing as a fact that there is a car, that there is gas available, and that without gas you cannot go in the car.  Yet until you put the gas into the car, it will not be able to go. Romans 10:9-10 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Salvation comes by heart belief and mouth confession.  I am sure that you realize that without the heart, repeating words on a page means nothing.  However, with your heart, we invite you to ask (pray) these words to the Lord Jesus: “Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner.  I realize that I have earned death in Hell forever.  I also realize that you died on the cross to pay the debt for me.  Right now, I am trusting in you, and you only apart from any works to save me.  Please save me right now as you said you would do.  Thank you for always honoring your Words.  Amen.”  Friend, we believe.  Do you?  If today you believed on Christ and asked Him to come into your “tank,” that is wonderful!  Would you let us know about it?  Send a note to Trinity Baptist Church, P.O. Box 28, Blacksville, WV 26521.  Call us at 304-879-5190.  We would love to hear from you.  We would love to send you additional information.  We believe. . . and that’s all it takes!
